photo essay: nostalgiac
reflection
What is the subject for your photo essay and where did you take your photographs? The subject for my photo essay was simple objects around my house, and they were taken in my grandparent's house.
Why did you select this place? It is my grandparent's house, where I spent time as a child with them and created many memories.
Why is it important to you? It makes me feel at home. I grew up here and the objects, places, and feelings create a sense of safety and nostalgia for me.
What concept are you trying to portray about this topic? I am trying to portray a sense of nostalgia that everyone feels from some aspect in their life. The objects I photographed are all very typical objects to be found in a home, each one having its own memories attached to it.
Visually, how did your images capture the narrative or “story” of your essay? It creates a story through each object or scene displayed. Each object has its own memories, growing up with each one.
Discuss: the order and arrangement of your photos, composition, viewpoint, angle, lighting, color vs black and white.... I arranged my photos based on the colors that were presented in each one and how they related to the colors in the other photos. I separated photos containing any shade of blue so that visually, blue was spread evenly throughout the book. My composition
How did you visually unify your series of photos? All of the photos carry similar visual patterns such as color, subject, and point of view.
